Living abroad boosts creativity

Living abroad, is an experience that I recommend to everyone. I think it should be a compulsory subject in Live.

A recent study of the Kellogg University suggests that there is a link between living abroad and creativity. http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/news_articles/2009/galinskyresearch.aspx

The research made by William Maddux and Adam D. Galinsky shows that there is some sort of psychological transformation that occur when people are living in a foreign country in order to enhance creativity. “This may happen when people work to adapt themselves to a new culture.”

In the study though, they point out that time spent traveling abroad did not matter; only living abroad was related to creativity.

My personal experience, after living in 3 different countries ( UK, Germany, France) a part from my country of origin Spain is that:

… you learn a lot from other cultures, but also a lot about your own culture and about yourself.
… it is very important to have a positive attitude
… it is important to adopt open position in front of different ways of seeing things and behaving
… it is the only real and efficient way to learn a language
… you can make a lot of new and divers friends
… and and and

Living successfully in another country can help us to be creative in a variety of other circumstances. Try it and share it with me! :)

I agree! I am French and I an living in Spain. And what you are saying is very interesting: this experience is the opportunity not only to learn about an other culture, but also about our own values & way of life (collevtive and personal)
